UeallaPrologueIt was a cold winter night, with the forest treetops lit by moonlight. Stars dotted the clear blue sky, and a forest below slept in relative peace. Below the canopy, where broken beams of light caught glimpses of nocturnal creatures, a lizard slid across the ground, its forked tongue tasting the air in anticipation of a juicy meal. A small brown mouse lay sleeping beside a log, unaware of the danger that crept closer with every breath of air.Without warning, a wild screech filled the air, and the lizard looked up at the canopy just as a tree squirrel landed on top of it. Thwack! The lizard fell into an unconscious heap, the squirrel holding up its stick in triumph. The mouse had leapt up at the loud noise and was crouching under the log, trembling. The squirrel looked curiously at the terrified rodent, and scurried over to the log it was hiding beneath. A friendly nuzzle was all it took to calm the rodent, who licked the squirrel's cheek in appreciation.The two
